Orchid & Hibiscus Gardens

GETTING HERE: Just across the road from the Bird Park. Walk up the steep road surrounded by green. Outside it says entrance fee is RM1. After walking in, though, the worker says it’s free.

Once inside you are greeted by a lush nursery of different kinds of orchids of a variety of colours. The lower part is a canopy filled with green and you can observe many interesting plants here.

Once outside you’ll find even more beautiful flowers in a maze-like garden where you’re bound to get lost. The atmosphere is so peaceful and the air is fresh while the sun shines brightly ahead.

Walking ahead past the orchid garden you’ll find yourself at the nearby hibiscus garden. These two are so close that you won’t notice transitioning between them if not for the signs.

Keep walking and you’ll find a beautiful white building which looks like it had been there for some time. There was nobody else there except me and an old couple so it was really tranquil and beautiful.

Butterfly Park

GETTING HERE: From the orchid/hibiscus park, walk down the road along Jalan Cenderawasih. Turn right at the first junction into Jalan Tembusu, then another right into Jalan Cenderasari. The park will be at your right. This takes about 10 minutes.

Ticket costs RM 11 for Malaysian and RM 22 for foreigner. Upon arriving, the park may seem small and usual, but once inside, you’ll be stunned at the many trees in the enclosing forming a small forest.

Besides butterflies, the park also houses some peculiar aquatic animals.

Heading for the exit, when you thought that’s it, suddenly you’re in another exhibition of a variety of scary insects.

That’s it for the butterfly (and insects) park. A gem with many hidden secrets. A wonderland to explore. If you’ve got the time (and interest) the insect museum also showcases a lot of insect samples and replicas, as well as detailed information about them.
